In the last decade or so cosmetic surgery has grown significantly in popularity with celebrities and TV production companies all getting involved. With so many people turning to cosmetic surgery to enhance their looks should you also be looking to cosmetic surgery? It should be clearly stated that cosmetic surgery is not for everyone but does offer some significant benefits. Today we are going to look at the five most popular cosmetic surgery procedures.

SKIN CARE:

Despite the recession, skin care provided by both untrained and trained cosmeticians, dermatologists and plastic surgeons remains the most popular treatments at present. These can vary from Botox which is greatly overused to fillers which may have short-term and long-term side effects and skin peels which vary in the depth of damage to the skin and have the side effects in the deeper peels which are the most effective of altering skin pigmentation.

BREAST AUGMENTATION:

Breast augmentation is the most common cosmetic surgical operation undertaken in the United Kingdom. Whilst under the influence of very commercial constraints, patients should take great care in their choice of surgeon. Principally, for the important advice they should receive preoperatively because there are many compromises to be made in this operation with regards to the type of prosthesis and its actual surgical technique performed. The patient should also look for the long-term care they are likely to receive as these prostheses will not last forever. Lastly, there are ways of greatly reducing the incidence of capsular contracture which remains the principle complication of this operation.

LIPOSUCTION:

Liposuction is the most common operative procedure in the United States. The principle is that each person has a set amount of fat cells which can get bigger and each cell can increase in size as you gain weight and decrease in size as you lose weight. Therefore, by removing some of these fat cells, you can alter the number of cells that are present to get bigger or smaller. This removal of the fat cells can be by any form of physical force, i.e. the muscle power of the surgeon, ultrasound, laser etc. There is no evidence that any particular force is better than another. A liberated fat is best sucked away because,

a.It can cause local inflammation.

b.The fat can be reabsorbed and deposited in other areas of the body.

Liposuction has the biggest touch up rate or secondary surgery of any cosmetic surgery procedure.

FACELIFTS:

With the aging population, the so called baby boomers live in a competitive environment and also have better health and a longer lifespan. Many patients wish to look as their body feels. The facelift surgery therefore has become much more common and usually involves a scar in front of and behind the ear with a further small scar under the chin. The principal mechanism of lift is on the SMAS layer which allows the surgeon to avoid damaging the underlying nerves and also gaining the maximum lift on the deep tissues avoids undue tension on the overlying skin. Creases are not removed by facelift. They are removed by resurfacing peels.

EYELID SURGERY:

As part of the aging process the first signs of aging are often around the eyes with a slight drooping of the eyebrows, there develops excess skin in the upper eyelids which can be removed by a simple operative procedure usually undertaken under local anaesthetic. If the brow is however low, then this is contraindicated and a brow lift is more appropriate. As part of the aging process, fat is redistributed around the face and with the weakening ligaments around the eyes, eye bags can become apparent in the lower eyelid. Lower eyelid surgery is probably the most technically demanding of cosmetic surgery operations with the highest incidents of long-term complications.

There are of course many other types of procedures available with each offering their own set of benefits. If you are considering surgery make sure you consult a reputable clinic and are entirely comfortable with the operation. It is always essential to use your common sense and keep to the recommended safety advice.

Gabriel Amorth, the Roman Catholic Church’s leading exorcist, has suggested missing schoolgirl Emanuela Orlandi was kidnapped for sexual abuse at orgies attended by foreign diplomats and arranged by Vatican police. Orlandi was fifteen when she vanished in 1983.

Investigators are examining bones from the Basilica of Sant’Apollinare (pictured), which may belong to Orlandi.

Amorth, 85, who was appointed by the late Pope John Paul II, makes his remarks as Italian police try to determine if bones buried near the body of a mobster belong to Orlandi. Anonymous claims have suggested the tomb of Enrico “Renatino” De Pedis contains clues to her disappearance.

Investigators are examining bones removed from his burial site in the Basilica of Sant’Apollinare. Buried in a nearby crypt, the bones are thought to be centuries old but forensic tests are ongoing. One theory is Pedis kidnapped Orlandi to press Vatican officials over a financial dispute, with his onetime lover claiming her body was disposed of in a cement mixer.

Amorth refutes this explanation, and also an alleged “international dimension”; another theory is that the kidnapping was to try and secure freedom for Mehmet Ali Agca of Turkey, who shot at the pope in 1981. Orlandi’s vanishing “was a crime with a sexual motive” says Amorth. “Parties were organised, with a Vatican gendarme [policeman] acting as the ‘recruiter’ of the girls.”

He further told La Stampa “The network involved diplomatic personnel from a foreign embassy to the Holy See. I believe Emanuela ended up a victim of this circle”. “It has already previously been stated by [the late] monsignor Simeone Duca, an archivist at the Vatican, who was asked to recruit girls for parties with the help of the Vatican gendarmes.”

Orlandi has not been seen since she set off from the family apartment in the Vatican City, heading for a Rome music lesson. Orlandi’s father worked for the Holy See. Amorth is a controversial priest who lays claim to thousands of exorcisms and has criticised activities such as yoga and children reading Harry Potter books as spiritually harmful.

Benet Academy

Students at Benet Academy in Lisle, Illinois, United States raised record amounts of money this year during their Christmas Drive fundraiser.

The annual two-week event is aimed at promoting the Christmas spirit in helping the poor and needy. Coordination of the fundraiser is a joint effort by the faculty and three students organizations—Student Government, National Honor Society (NHS), and Outreach. Donations from previous years have allowed Outreach to provide food and Christmas gifts to dozens of families during the holiday season. NHS in the past has provided blankets, winter gear, and toys to local families as well.

A semi-formal dance held on Dec. 5 kicked off the Christmas Drive this year. Two weeks of in-school fundraising efforts ensued, including several no-uniform days and Benet’s traditional Penny Wars. In that four-day activity, the four grade levels competed against each other to see who can collect the most pennies. Nickels, dimes, and quarters were allowed but had negative value in the class total. The seniors won this contest, allowing them to have a no-uniform day on Dec. 11. Other activities such as bake sales and a beard-growing contest raised money as well.

During an all-school assembly on Friday, the last day of the drive, Student Government President Kyle Marinko announced that preliminary calculations put the amount of donations at US$53,392.82, a record for the school. Last year’s drive collected approximately US$42,000. A final total has not been officially announced, since Student Government officials continue to count additional donations that have been received.

The California Department of Justice on Wednesday released the warrant and affidavit of a criminal investigation of the Wells Fargo bank. The State of California served the warrant on October 5 to search the San Francisco headquarters of Wells Fargo for felonious activities related to identity theft.

The warrant said property to be seized at the bank’s San Francisco headquarters was related to the unauthorized creation of accounts by Wells Fargo employees including the names of individuals for the accounts; account information and fees; the names of employees and their managers who created accounts without the consent of the Wells Fargo customers in question; and all communications including emails referencing the unauthorised accounts.

California Attorney General Kamala Harris’s criminal probe is part of an increasing list of officials nationwide questioning the business practices of Wells Fargo such as California State Treasurer John Chiang who announced a one-year suspension of State investment with the bank on September 28; Illinois State Treasurer Mike Frerichs followed suit with a year-long ban on October 3; and Democratic United States Senators Bob Menendez of New Jersey, Jeff Merkley of Oregon, and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, who wrote to the U.S. Security Exchanges Commission (SEC) suggesting investigation on September 29.

One of the current design trends is expanding a home’s living area by making better use of outdoor spaces. Decks and patios are becoming increasingly important as property owners look for ways to enjoy the outdoors and entertain guests. One of the components now routinely seen in outdoor living spaces is Fire Pits in Salt Lake City UT.

Choosing the Best Options

Fire pits come in a variety of sizes and styles designed to fit virtually any exterior living space. Of course, there are also many materials used to create fire pits, suggesting it should never be difficult to locate a fire pit or fire table to meet a home’s unique needs. The fuel source selected will also be important, as fire pits and tables using wood, natural gas, or LP gas are all readily available. Design experts will generally work closely with property owners to ensure the best fuel option is selected.

Eat, Entertain, and Stay Warm

Fire Pits in Salt Lake City UT can be used as gathering spots for family and friends during most of the year. Even cooler nights will be comfortable when everyone is sitting around a fire pit enjoying each other’s company. Many designs include sitting areas that double as dining spaces. That means everyone can be together as they eat a wonderful dinner. Contractors and design professionals help clients define their needs and select the best fire pits to meet those needs.

Enjoy Flexibility

It’s rather easy to locate a fire pit just about wherever a homeowner feels appropriate. While routing natural gas lines poses some degree of difficulty during installations, opting for wood or LP fire pits makes it possible to install a fire pit just about anywhere. That level of flexibility is ideal for property owners who want to periodically change their deck or patio configuration.

If you’re currently considering a fire pit or table, now is the perfect time to contact a professional for advice. The experts are always available to help homeowners decide which fire pit or fire table would best fulfill their design objectives. A Richmond Hill, Ontario man is currently released after he was abducted and escaped last night.

Chee Kian Jeff Chan, 28, was forced by three people into a black Mercedes SUV (which was caught on security camera) in the parking garage of his condominium at 23 Oneida Cresant in the Yonge Street and High Tech Road area. A small amount of blood was found at the scene. He was dropped off at an unnamed location in Toronto Wednesday night.

The suspects were wearing black clothes and balaclavas covering their faces at the time of the incident. The licence plate number of the Mercedes SUV is not known because there was no plate on the front of the vehicle.

Chan walked into the Major Mackenzie Dr. W. police station, at about 6:45 p.m. last night, suffering from injuries and went to a hospital for examination.

York Regional Police say that he is a poker player, after hearing about a man with the same name that took seventh place at the River Rock Casino Resort near Vancouver, British Columbia on November 19, 2005, earning him $44,753.

No ransom note was received and police believe that it was an extortion attempt.

“He was unaware of a lot of things during his ordeal,” Constable Laurie Perks said. “He didn’t know what they looked like. His vision was concealed and so he therefore didn’t know where he was through most of his ordeal.”

It is believed that Chan’s three captors released him after 28 hours because of the media coverage surrounding his disappearance.

The investigation is still ongoing.

Apple has released an application that limits the volume produced from its iPod portable music players. The software update, iPod Software 1.1.1, works with the iPod Nano and the Video version. Apple released the program in response to complaints that it had not taken necessary measures to prevent hearing loss in iPod users.

In California, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Apple in January over claims of hearing loss from iPod use.

Apple’s worldwide vice-president of marketing for the iPod, Greg Joswiak, indicated that this patch is available for people who want “an easy-to-use option to set their own personal volume limit.” It is available for free download.

The software also has the option of being used with parental controls to prevent children from modifying the volume.

iPods sold in France already have the volume limited, as the law forbids a sound louder than 100 decibels (dB). The American Speech Language Hearing Association published a study where it appears that iPod’s (and mp3 players’s) power is 120 dB, comparable to a live concert. A gunshot is 140 dB.

Customer Relationship Management Software (CRM) has become an essential component to ensuring business success. For those who arent familiar with the term CRM – it stands for Customer Relationship Management and is software which keeps all your customer information in one central location. This helps you to attract new customers at the same time as keeping existing customers happy. Essentially, not only will Customer Relationship Management enable you to become more efficient and effective, it will also improve the level of customer service which you can deliver, ultimately impacting on the level of customer satisfaction and therefore customer retention.

The concept of CRM in terms of storing all customer information in one place has been around for a number of years. However, the ways in which people do this varies significantly, some people use paper folders, others use spreadsheets and there are some who simply store information in their head. However, CRM software provides a central location where all information can be stored. Initially all deployments of CRM were On Premise solutions, however, recent developments in technology mean that there is now a cloud alternative. This has made CRM accessible to businesses of all sizes and as a result the popularity of the solution has increased significantly.

So, what is the difference between cloud and on-premise solutions?

With an On-Premise deployment, an organisation will have the solution based on servers which are on their own site. With the on-premise option there is an additional cost associated with the investment required in new IT hardware and Infrastructure. However the benefits of the On-Premise deployment include:

Greater control over the solution

Total Ownership

Easier Integration

No Monthly fees

Easy Configuration

However CRM in the Cloud is where you effectively rent a space on a server which is based in a secure data centre and your solution is stored on this. Although this could raise concerns in terms of data safety, modern data centres run by major providers work to stringent security standards so you can rest assured that your data is safe.

Cloud CRM solutions, deliver a number of benefits including:

As soon as you have bought the license you can use the software

It is quick to set up

You are unlikely to need any additional hardware or infrastructure

Low initial set up costs

CRM in the cloud has made CRM much more accessible for small to medium sized businesses as it has become much more affordable. However although cloud CRM appeals to smaller organisations, it is also used by larger organisations who are just considering implementing CRM.

Company Requirements

The term CRM covers a broad spectrum in terms of functionality, its therefore critically important that you know what it is you want the software to be able to. Once you know this, communicating it to a CRM specialist will ensure that you get a solution which meets the requirements of your organisation now and continues to do so in the future. Investing in a solution which doesnt have the ability to meet your needs in the future is an expensive waste of time. However, if you have a clear idea of what the CRM solution needs to do then it will be easier for a CRM specialist to assist in recommending a solution which is right for your organisation.

Integration with other systems

This is a critical consideration when thinking of implementing a CRM solution. If you require your system to integrate with any other back office systems, then the on-premise hosting alternative is likely to be the best one for you. Integration with other systems is not impossible with the hosted platform, but there are likely to be limitations around this.

So which is the best hosting alternative?

It really isnt a case of On-Premise being better than cloud or Vice Versa. What really is critical is that you do full requirements capture so that you can find out exactly what you need from the solution. If for example you simply need to be able to use the out of the box solution to manage your relationships with your customers then the cloud solution will more than likely do exactly what you need it to do. However, if you would like the ability to fully customise the solution then the On-premise version is probably more suitable.

Its important to remember that with some cloud solutions including Microsoft Dynamics CRM Onlineif you initially have the solution in the cloud, but then decide you want to bring it in house, this can be done in the touch of button and the same applies from on-premise to cloud.

How do I decide on a hosting platform?

The decision about the hosting platform will often go deeper than the companies needs. If for example you are a small company, it could be argued that that CRM in the Cloud will be the ideal solution for you and for all intents and purposes it might be. However there is a much deeper issue to consider, in terms of the investment. When you take the On Premise Solution this is something which although there is a significant upfront cost, ultimately you will own it. This is therefore considered as capital expenditure. Although there will be the initial capital expenditure, there will also be additional operational costs which will be required to run the solution, plus depreciation in the value of the hardware.

However, if you choose to go for the cloud solution, effectively you will be renting the solution making it an operational cost. Essentially if you stop paying your monthly payment, then you will no longer have access to the solution. This is often a question for the accountant in the organisation as it will be up to them to decide what is best for the company from a cash flow perspective.

A different perspective to consider when looking into the hosting platforms is the type of cost that you want the solution to be. After all, when you decide to go for the On-premise solution, the upfront cost will be significantly larger than if you were to go for the cloud solutions. However, after you have paid the money, with the on-premise solution, you will ultimately own the software.

Capital Expenditure VS Operational Expenditure

In terms of CRM solutions, the on-premise solutions such as Microsoft Dynamics CRM, Sage CRM and FrontRanges GoldMine would be classed as Capital Expenditure. This is because you will pay up front for the solution and once paid for the solution will continue to work until you tell it not to. In terms of the Operational expenditure, this is what cloud solutions are. With cloud solutions, although the starts up costs are lower, you will never actually own the software and if you stop making your monthly payment the solution will stop working.

If you decide to go for the operational expenditure (cloud solutions), there will be other economic benefits which will arise other than the direct cost saving on infrastructure acquisition such as:

– The ability to get up and running quickly

– The increased productivity of the workforce.

And although on-premise solutions (the ones which are classed as a capital expenditure) give organisations the ability to customise the solution and complete ownership, it will never just be the case of a one-off capital expenditure, there will also be the ongoing operational costs of maintaining the solution, for example the cost of energy, IT admin staff and servers.

How do I find out which solution is best for me?

To really find our which CRM solution is best for you; you need to find an Independent CRM specialist. Not only will they be able to give advice on which is the best hosting alternative for you, they will also be able to give advice on which CRM solution best suits you requirements. If you go to a company which one sells one CRM product they are obviously going to tell you that their product will match your requirements. However, If you go to a CRM Specialist, the first step they will take will be to undertake a detailed requirements capture, this is where they will find out exactly what you want your system to do, how your business operates and who needs to access the solution.

Whoever you choose as a business partner, make sure they dont see CRM as an aside to their core business. Also check they offer a full range of services, and do not just supply software and installation.

Bell Canada Enterprises (BCE), one of Canada’s largest telecommunications companies, announced Tuesday that it is in talks with a consortium of Canadian pension funds to explore the possible sale of the company.

If successful in their bid, the consortium would take the publicly-traded company private, which would mean an end to the trading of BCE shares on the Toronto (TSX: BCE), New York (NYSE: BCE) and the Swiss (SWX: BCE) stock exchanges. BCE is one of the most widely held stocks in Canada.

BCE revealed that the potential takeover group includes the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, and Canada’s Public Sector Pension Investment Board. Each of the pension funds involved have signed non-disclosure and standstill agreements with BCE. It was also revealed that New York-based private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR) would join the Canadian-led consortium as a minority partner.

“We are pleased to be a partner with this consortium of leading Canadian institutional fund managers and look forward to working closely together in this transaction.” said Henry Kravis, co-founding member of KKR. “Our experience in large, complex transactions of comparable size will be of significant value to this process,” continued Kravis.

BCE is also leaving the door open to rival bids, “taking into consideration the need to meet all legislative and regulatory requirements, including ensuring the Company remains Canadian to meet existing foreign ownership restrictions,” the company stated. In addition, BCE may retain the status quo if it does not receive a bid that it feels would enhance shareholder value.

One other pension fund that has expressed interest is the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (OTPP). “We are pleased that this process is not exclusive and we will continue to review our options, including leading an alternative Canadian consortium,” said Jim Leech, Senior Vice-President, Teachers’ Private Capital. OTPP is currently BCE’s largest single shareholder, with an approximate ownership stake of 5.3 percent.

BCE, as Bell Canada, has been in business for 127 years. It provides phone service, satellite television, Internet access, wireless services, and other technologies to residential and business customers.

If analyst estimates are accurate, the sale of BCE could be worth about CA$32 billion or roughly $40 per share. On Tuesday, BCE shares were up CA$2.34 to close at $38.60 on the TSX, and up US$2.03 to close at $34.10 on the NYSE.
